A once-in-a-generation act of restoration and reinvention

The Jenners Building redevelopment is one of Edinburgh’s most significant civic, cultural and commercial projects.

Conceived by David Chipperfield Architects, the masterplan spans 20,000 square metres across four interconnected buildings and twelve floors, combining extensive restoration and reinstatement works with carefully considered new interventions.

Revitalising the building’s 19th-century architectural heritage, the project will create a dynamic new destination for city life.

The former Jenners department store building was originally designed by Scottish architect William Hamilton Beattie and completed between 1895 and 1905. It remains one of Edinburgh’s defining examples of Renaissance Revival architecture.

Following its acquisition in 2017 by AAA United, a real estate company owned by Anders Holch Povlsen, planning permission for the redevelopment was granted in 2022, with construction underway since 2024.

Architects, specialist consultants, craftspeople and traditional trades from across Scotland and the UK are working to restore, renew and carefully reimagine the landmark for contemporary use.
